Part Time Academic Tutors

The Part Time Academic Tutor will provide school day and/or after-school support to the GAPS tutoring program operations by facilitating learning platforms and assisting participants as well as assisting with administrative tasks for the program to ensure maximum benefit to all participants. Academic subjects of support include Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Biology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Economics, English 9, English 10, English 11, English 12, Government, U.S. History, and World History.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to students, helping them understand and master strategies and subject content
  • Assist students with their assignments by guiding them through problems or questions they find challenging in order to complete their assignments accurately and on time
  • Assess students’ knowledge and skills to identify areas where they need help or improvement
  • Adapt teaching methods to individual learning styles and needs of students
  • Provide students with effective study skills, time management, and organizational strategies as well as note-taking and test-taking techniques
  • Coordinate social emotional learning and academic support programs
  • Ensure participants comply with organizational rules and policies.
  • Verify learning platforms are properly implemented during sessions.
  • Oversee daily functions of tutoring programs.
  • Monitor attendance and help resolve student conflicts.
  • Periodically check-in with students and staff via interviews and questionnaires to determine program efficacy.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to privacy regulations

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Keen attention to detail and meticulous record keeping
  • Comfortable working in a school environment
  • Ability to maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in use of common corporate office software
  • Able to problem solve
  • Passionate about education and able to motivate students through encouragement and positive reinforcement
  • Normal physical mobility that includes movement around the room from student to student

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current degree-seeking college student
  • Computer/technology experience
  • Intermediate knowledge & experience with social media platforms {Twitter/Facebook/Instagram/Snapchat/ LinkedIn}
  • Well-developed presentation capability, in both formal and informal settings.
  • Program administration skills
  • Work well with other team members as well as work independently
